As a tax filer, it's important to be aware of key dates throughout the year to ensure that you meet your tax obligations and avoid penalties. Here are the important dates for individual and business tax filers to keep in mind:
March 15: Deadline for filing corporate tax returns for S Corporations and partnerships that requested an extension. This is the deadline to submit the tax returns for these types of entities.
April 15: Deadline for filing individual tax returns for sole proprietors and single-member LLCs. As a business owner, your personal and business taxes may be interconnected, so ensure you meet this deadline for your individual tax return. This also the deadline for first-quarter estimated tax payments. If you are a business owner and expect to owe taxes for the current year, you may need to make estimated tax payments.
June 15: Deadline for second-quarter estimated tax payments. This is the due date for your second installment of estimated tax payments for the year.
September 15: Deadline for filing corporate tax returns for S Corporations and partnerships that received an extension. If you requested an extension, make sure to submit the tax returns by this date. This is also the deadline for third-quarter estimated tax payments. Ensure you make your estimated tax payment for the third quarter by this date.
October 15: Final deadline for individuals who filed for an extension to submit their tax returns. If you needed additional time to file your individual tax return as a business owner, this is the deadline to submit it. This is also the deadline for filing trust and estate income tax returns for calendar-year filers who received an extension. If you have a trust or estate, this is the deadline to file the tax return if you requested an extension.
